A standalone sequel novel focused on Blair Waldorf is reportedly in development, bringing one of Gossip Girl’s most recognisable characters back to the page.

According to a report by Deadline, the novel, titled Blair, is being developed by Alloy Entertainment and will be written by Cecily von Ziegesar, the author of the original Gossip Girl book series. The project is expected to revisit Blair years after readers last saw her, offering a new chapter in the character’s story.

While full plot details remain under wraps, the novel is said to follow Blair in her 40s as she returns to New York City and attempts to re-establish her status within the Upper East Side social hierarchy. The book is currently slated for release in the summer of 2027.

Alloy Entertainment, which holds the film and television rights to the upcoming novel, is known for its track record in adapting popular books for the screen, including The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars and You. Any future screen adaptation of the Blair sequel has not been confirmed.

Blair Waldorf was portrayed by Leighton Meester in the television adaptation of Gossip Girl, which aired from 2007 to 2012. The series followed the lives of privileged teenagers on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where “can hide no secret from the ruthless blogger who is always watching.” Blair quickly became a standout character, known for her ambition, sharp wit and carefully curated image.

In 2023, speculation about the franchise resurfaced when official social media accounts shared an image of the original cast alongside the caption, “Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After a long time away, I see it didn’t take much time for you to dirty up the clean slates I gave you. #GossipGirl”.

A television reboot launched on HBO Max in 2021 with a new cast, but it concluded after two seasons. The forthcoming novel marks the first time Blair Waldorf has been given a solo literary continuation since the original series ended.
