Joe Rogan said he was not nominated for the Golden Globes’ newly introduced Best Podcast award because he refused to pay the organization’s $500 submission fee, calling the process something he wanted no part of.

The Golden Globes debuted the Best Podcast category this year, with nominees selected from a pool of the 25 most-listened-to podcasts.

Despite The Joe Rogan Experience being one of the most popular shows in the world, it was not among the six nominees. Amy Poehler ultimately won the inaugural award for her podcast Good Hang.

Addressing the issue on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan said the Golden Globes invited him to submit his show for consideration but required a $500 entry fee. “They asked me to submit to be nominated for the Golden Globes and you had to pay $500,” Rogan said. “I said, ‘No. I don’t want to be a part of that.’”

Rogan emphasized that his decision was not a critique of Poehler or her podcast, which he said he had not listened to but assumed was deserving. He acknowledged that some fans were upset by the outcome but reiterated that he chose not to participate in the process.

“I just know that I didn’t submit,” Rogan said. “I don’t care. You’re just a group of people that decide you’re going to give an award out? ‘I get a trophy’? I don’t want to be a part of that.”

Rogan also pointed to the continued commercial success of his show, which has ranked No. 1 on Spotify for five consecutive years and topped Apple Podcasts and YouTube rankings in 2025. “I already won,” he said, citing audience reach rather than awards recognition.

Other high-profile podcasts, including The Megyn Kelly Show, were also eligible but reportedly declined to submit for consideration.

The 2026 Golden Globe nominees for Best Podcast included Good Hang With Amy Poehler, SmartLess, Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and NPR’s Up First.
