Eric Dane has withdrawn from a major ALS advocacy event due to ongoing health challenges related to his diagnosis.

The Euphoria actor was scheduled to attend the ALS Network’s Champions for Cures and Care Gala on Saturday, January 24, where he was set to receive the organization’s Advocate of the Year award.

Just hours before the event, Dane canceled his appearance, citing the physical effects of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). According to a statement shared with People, Dane explained that he was not well enough to attend due to the realities of living with the neurodegenerative disease.

The ALS Network acknowledged his absence in a public statement, expressing appreciation for his continued advocacy. The organization praised Dane’s courage and commitment to raising awareness about ALS, noting that he was fully honored during the event despite his inability to appear in person.

Actor Aaron Lazar, who is also living with ALS, stepped in to accept the Advocate of the Year award on Dane’s behalf. Lazar’s participation highlighted the shared experiences within the ALS community and underscored the importance of visibility and support for those affected by the disease.

Dane publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025. ALS is a progressive neurological condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and loss of physical function over time. Since announcing his diagnosis, Dane has used his platform to advocate for increased awareness, research funding and patient support.

The actor’s withdrawal from the gala reflects the unpredictable nature of ALS and the physical limitations it can impose. Despite this setback, Dane’s recognition by the ALS Network underscores his impact as an advocate and his continued influence within the ALS community, even as he navigates his health battle privately.
