Amazon’s Legally Blonde prequel Elle gets release date and early renewal
Amazon Prime Video has renewed its Legally Blonde prequel Elle for a second season ahead of the show’s debut

Amazon Prime Video is returning to the world of Legally Blonde, announcing both a premiere date and an early renewal for its upcoming prequel series Elle.
The first season of Elle will launch July 1 on Prime Video, with all episodes releasing at once. Ahead of its debut, Amazon has already greenlit a second season, with production scheduled to begin later this spring.
Starring Lexi Minetree in the title role, the series explores Elle Woods’ life before law school, following her teenage years in high school and the formative experiences that shaped her confidence, ambition, and unmistakable optimism.
The show reimagines the origins of the character made famous by Reese Witherspoon in the original 2001 film.
Witherspoon, who serves as an executive producer through her Hello Sunshine banner, described the series as a meaningful return to a character that has resonated with audiences for more than two decades.
She praised Minetree’s casting and said the show leans into themes of kindness, self-belief, and authenticity while offering a fresh coming-of-age perspective for a new generation of viewers.
The cast also includes June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s parents, along with Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker. Recurring appearances will feature a wide ensemble, including James Van Der Beek and several other familiar faces.
Amazon executives said the decision to renew the series ahead of its premiere reflects confidence in the creative vision and the team behind the project, calling Elle both a nostalgic extension of a beloved franchise and a contemporary character-driven story.
The series was created by Laura Kittrell, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries. Jason Moore directed the opening episodes and also executive produces. Additional producers include Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt, and Amanda Brown.
The Legally Blonde franchise began with the 2001 film, which became a global box office hit and pop culture staple, followed by a sequel, a Broadway musical, and a made-for-video third installment.
With Elle, the story now expands further back in time, offering fans a deeper look at the making of one of cinema’s most enduring heroines.
