Mr. and Mrs. Smith season 2 names Anna Ouyang Moench as new showrunner
Mr. and Mrs. Smith season 2 taps Severance writer Anna Ouyang Moench as showrunner after Francesca Sloane exits

Amazon Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith has officially appointed a new creative leader for its upcoming second season.
Anna Ouyang Moench, best known for her work as a writer and supervising producer on Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed series Severance, has been named the new showrunner for season 2 of the spy drama.
Moench steps into the role following the departure of co-creator and former showrunner Francesca Sloane, who exited the project in 2025 after securing an overall deal with HBO. Sloane’s new agreement includes work on a potential third season of Big Little Lies. Production on Mr. and Mrs. Smith season 2 was originally slated to begin in fall 2025 but faced indefinite delays amid the leadership transition.
Season 2 is set to star Mark Eydelshteyn and Sophie Thatcher in the lead roles, signaling a new chapter for the anthology-style series. None of the main or guest cast members from season 1 — including Donald Glover, Maya Erskine, Michaela Coel, and Alexander Skarsgård — are currently expected to return.
Amazon MGM Studios executives praised Moench’s appointment, highlighting her ability to balance character-driven storytelling, emotional depth, and sharp humor. In addition to Severance, Moench is an executive producer on Netflix’s upcoming second season of Beef and has an extensive background in theater, with recent acclaimed stage work in 2024.
Originally co-created by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, Mr. and Mrs. Smith reimagines the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The first season earned 16 Emmy nominations and won two awards, cementing the series as a major success for Prime Video.
With Moench at the helm, season 2 aims to expand the show’s world while maintaining its blend of espionage, intimacy, and high-stakes drama.
