Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of famed filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles Superior Court this week for his arraignment in connection with the brutal stabbing deaths of his parents.

The hearing, set for Wednesday, January 7, 2026, marks the next major step in the high-profile case that has shocked both Hollywood and the broader public.

Reiner has been held without bail since his arrest on two counts of first-degree murder after the bodies of Rob and Michele Reiner were found in their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. Authorities reported that both victims died from multiple sharp-force injuries, and prosecutors allege that Reiner committed the killings with a knife. The charges include special circumstances, which could significantly increase his sentence if he is convicted.

At an earlier court appearance in December, Reiner did not enter a plea. Dressed in a protective vest and shackles, he acknowledged the judge’s questions by saying “Yes, your honor” when asked whether he agreed to waive his right to a speedy arraignment. His lawyer, Alan Jackson, has not publicly outlined a defense strategy or confirmed whether the defense will seek another delay before Reiner formally enters a plea at this week’s arraignment.

Reiner was recently removed from suicide watch, although he remains in high-security confinement at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles as he awaits the next phase of legal proceedings. The arraignment will give his legal team the opportunity to formally address the charges and potentially set the stage for pretrial motions and hearings.

The case has drawn intense attention not only because of Rob Reiner’s extensive career — which included directing iconic films such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me and When Harry Met Sally… — but also because of the tragic circumstances surrounding the alleged crime. Prosecutors have not yet indicated whether they plan to pursue the death penalty or seek life without the possibility of parole should Reiner be convicted.

Nick Reiner’s arraignment is expected to be closely watched as legal teams prepare for what could be a lengthy pretrial process. The proceedings come roughly three and a half weeks after the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner, whose contributions to film, activism and the arts have been widely celebrated and mourned in the wake of the tragedy.
