Sophie Turner hints at ‘Game of Thrones’ return as sequel talk grows
Sophie Turner has addressed whether she would return as Sansa Stark as HBO explores possible ‘Game of Thrones’ sequels

Sophie Turner has finally broken her silence on the possibility of returning to the world of Game of Thrones, addressing long running sequel speculation surrounding HBO’s plans for Westeros. The actor, who played Sansa Stark across all eight seasons of the fantasy drama, spoke candidly while promoting her upcoming Amazon Prime Video project Steal, offering fans rare insight into how she feels about revisiting one of television’s most recognisable characters.
Turner acknowledged that the idea of returning to Sansa Stark is both tempting and complicated. While she joked about being persuaded by the right offer, she also admitted that stepping back into the role would come with emotional weight. She explained that she was personally satisfied with how Sansa’s journey ended, noting that the character’s final position as Queen in the North gave her a sense of closure that many other characters did not receive.

The actor reflected on how unusual that sense of closure felt, given the divisive reaction to the show’s final season. While much of the audience expressed disappointment with how the series concluded, Turner shared that she felt Sansa’s ending honoured the character’s growth and resilience. Because of that, she suggested that returning could risk unsettling something that already feels complete to her.
Despite those reservations, Turner did not rule anything out entirely. She stressed that any decision would depend on the quality of the script and the direction of the story. For her, a return would need to justify reopening Sansa’s story rather than simply leaning on nostalgia. She made it clear that she would only consider a sequel if it felt meaningful and creatively strong.
HBO has continued expanding the Game of Thrones universe with projects set long before the events of the original series, including House of the Dragon and The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. George R R Martin has confirmed that while most planned spin offs are prequels, some sequel concepts have been discussed behind the scenes. However, no official sequel series has been announced or confirmed.
Online, Turner’s comments quickly gained traction. Fans debated whether Sansa Stark should remain untouched or whether a sequel could offer deeper exploration of her rule in the North. Social media platforms were flooded with clips of Turner’s remarks, with many praising her honesty and others urging HBO to leave the original characters’ endings intact. Some fans also revisited past interviews from other cast members, comparing their views on returning to Westeros.
