Kristen Stewart expresses interest in directing a Twilight remake
Kristen Stewart reveals she is committed to directing a remake of the first Twilight film in a future project

Actress Kristen Stewart has expressed a strong interest in directing a remake of the original Twilight film, which launched the popular vampire romance franchise.
Speaking at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Creative Impact Awards, Stewart emphasized her admiration for the original directors, including Catherine Hardwicke and Chris Weitz, while explaining why she would like to reimagine the first installment.
“I would love — look. I love what Catherine did, I love what Chris did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” Stewart told Entertainment Tonight. “They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time.” She added, “Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”
Stewart, who starred as Bella Swan in all five Twilight films, praised Hardwicke’s work on the first movie, noting the challenge of maintaining creative vision amid numerous opinions and high expectations. She also reflected on the difficulties faced by the directors of the sequels, acknowledging that while each film retained its own personality, the process for subsequent installments was often “really stifled.”
The franchise, based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novels, previously saw different directors for each film, with Hardwicke helming Twilight, Weitz directing New Moon, David Slade on Eclipse, and Bill Condon completing Breaking Dawn – Parts 1 and 2.
Stewart also noted that a remake could benefit from a larger budget and creative support, giving her the opportunity to reinterpret the story while remaining faithful to its original essence. Meanwhile, Lionsgate has reportedly been developing a Twilight television adaptation, with Meyer involved, though no further updates on the series have been released.
Stewart’s comments highlight a renewed interest in revisiting and potentially reimagining the franchise that launched her career.
