Russell Brand faces two new sexual offence charges
Russell Brand has been charged with an extra count of rape and sexual assault, adding to ongoing legal cases

Comedian and broadcaster Russell Brand has been formally charged with two additional sexual offence counts, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. The new charges include one count of rape and one of sexual assault, allegedly involving two separate women, expanding the scope of ongoing legal proceedings against the entertainer.
Brand, 49, had previously pleaded not guilty to five charges involving four women, including two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The new charges relate to alleged incidents from 2009: the rape charge occurred between 7 February and 1 March, and the sexual assault charge between 31 August and 1 December. Both charges have been authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service following an investigation that began after reporting from the Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches in September 2023.
The comedian is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January 2026 in relation to these additional charges. Police confirmed that detectives are actively investigating all allegations, emphasising that these charges relate to two new complainants.
Brand’s legal issues have drawn widespread attention due to his public profile as a former actor and television host. His previous court appearances involved bail arrangements and initial pleas of not guilty, and he remains under investigation while awaiting trial. The latest charges mark a continuation of a high-profile and complex case that has unfolded over several years.
The Metropolitan Police has urged the public to refrain from speculation while investigations continue. Legal experts have noted that these new charges will likely lengthen proceedings and could affect scheduling for upcoming court dates.
This story is developing, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses and court appearances take place.
