Simu Liu has revealed how Taylor Swift played a meaningful role in his engagement to fiancée Allison Hsu, adding a personal touch to his Paris proposal earlier this year.

The Marvel actor shared the story while appearing on The Tonight Show to promote his upcoming series, The Copenhagen Test.

Liu explained that Swift’s involvement was especially significant because of Hsu’s deep connection to the pop superstar. Hsu, a digital marketing executive in the music industry, has been a longtime Taylor Swift fan. According to Liu, Swift’s music played an important role in the early stages of their relationship, helping him better understand his partner and her passions. The couple has previously attended The Eras Tour together, as well as the premiere of the Eras Tour concert film.

Wanting to make the proposal as meaningful as possible, Liu decided to reach out to Swift’s team. He contacted Swift through her publicist with a request for a short congratulatory message. Despite having met Swift only a few times, Liu said he was surprised by how quickly she responded. Within two days, Swift sent a brief video message that Liu was able to play for Hsu during the proposal.

Liu described the moment as emotionally overwhelming for his fiancée. While she was already emotional during the engagement, seeing the video from Swift took her by surprise and left her in shock. Liu credited the message as the “cherry on top” of an already memorable moment.

The actor also praised Swift for her kindness, describing her as “so nice and so sweet.” In a notable coincidence, Swift herself became engaged months after Liu’s proposal, adding another layer of shared celebration to the story.
