Supergirl’s first synopsis reveals Kara Zor-El must confront her origins and face a ruthless enemy in 2026 film

DC Studios has released the first official synopsis for its upcoming film Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El.
The synopsis teases a cosmic adventure in which Kara must confront her origins to carve her path as a hero.
According to the synopsis, Kara Zor-El is forced into heroism when an unexpected and ruthless enemy threatens the galaxy. She teams up with an unlikely companion on a journey where revenge and justice are at stake. The story will explore Kara’s past on Krypton, offering audiences insight into the Woman of Tomorrow’s early life and motivations.
The film also features Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Jason Momoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll. Craig Gillespie directs the project, with a script by Ana Nogueira, while producers Peter Safran and James Gunn oversee the DC Studios production.
Supergirl draws inspiration from Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic series. Fans of the DC Universe may recall Kara’s previous appearances in Peacemaker Season 2 and Superman, where her actions hinted at a more unpolished and unpredictable hero. The film promises to showcase her evolution into a true hero, highlighting her unique and challenging upbringing compared to Superman.
The movie is set to premiere in theaters on June 26, 2026, and is expected to expand the DCU while providing a fresh origin story for one of its most compelling characters.
