Talia Ryder has officially replaced Sophie Thatcher as the new lead in Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2, which has now begun production after a months-long delay, according to Variety.

The Amazon Prime Video spy drama continues its anthology format, reimagining the original concept with a fresh cast and storyline each season. Ryder will star opposite Anora breakout Mark Eydelshteyn, who was previously announced as the male lead.

The casting change marks a notable shift in the series as production moves forward in Los Angeles after earlier delays and relocation tied to California tax incentives.

The upcoming season also brings in Severance and Beef writer Anna Ouyang Moench as the new showrunner, replacing Francesca Sloane and signaling a new creative direction for the Emmy-winning series.

Season 1 starred Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as two strangers paired in a covert espionage program. It ended on a cliffhanger and went on to earn 16 Emmy nominations, winning two awards, establishing the show as one of Amazon’s standout originals.

Sophie Thatcher was previously attached to the project before Ryder stepped into the role, though Amazon Prime Video has not commented on the change. The series is also expected to continue its tradition of high-profile guest appearances, following Season 1’s lineup that included Paul Dano, Michaela Coel, Sarah Paulson, and John Turturro.

As anticipation builds, Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2 is expected to expand its anthology approach while introducing a new dynamic between its lead characters.
