Fifteen years after 3 Idiots became one of India’s most beloved films, fans can finally look forward to a sequel.

Reports from Pinkvilla indicate that the original cast, Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi, are expected to return, bringing back the iconic characters of Rancho, Farhan, Raju, and Pia.

The film will once again be directed by Rajkumar Hirani, with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Aamir Khan also on board as producers. Sources say the script has been finalized, and the team is thrilled with the story’s mix of humour, emotion, and meaning, aiming to recapture the magic of the original.

The sequel is said to pick up nearly 15 years after the characters went their separate ways, exploring their lives as adults while retaining the warmth and humour that made the first film so memorable.

“The story continues their journey and introduces new adventures, reflecting how their lives have changed,” a source shared.

Hirani has reportedly considered a sequel for years but only recently found the right moment to develop a script that could live up to the original’s legacy. The director was previously focused on his Dadasaheb Phalke biopic before turning his attention back to the 3 Idiots universe.

Released in 2009, 3 Idiots was a cultural phenomenon, sparking conversations about India’s education system and cementing its place as a cult classic. With the original cast returning, the sequel is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of the coming years.
