Diddy sends cease-and-desist to Netflix over footage in 50 Cent–produced docuseries

Sean “Diddy” Combs has moved to block Netflix from releasing its upcoming docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning, accusing the platform of using footage that was “never authorized for release.”

The series, executive-produced by longtime rival Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, is set to debut as Combs’ legal team issues a cease-and-desist demanding Netflix pull the project.

According to Combs’ spokesperson, the footage shown in Netflix’s trailer was filmed just days before his 2024 arrest and was part of a decades-long personal documentary project Combs began at age 19.

His team insists the material was taken without permission and says Netflix and CEO Ted Sarandos were aware of Combs’ ongoing efforts to document his own life story.

Netflix disputes the allegations. Director Alexandra Stapleton says her team obtained the footage legally and has the rights to use it, adding that they attempted multiple times to invite Combs or his representatives to comment or participate, with no response.

Combs, now serving a roughly four-year federal sentence after a mixed jury verdict, has not seen the docuseries ahead of release.

He is currently appealing his conviction and remains embroiled in dozens of civil lawsuits involving allegations he has denied.

In their warning to Netflix, Combs’ attorneys say he “will not hesitate” to pursue further legal action, echoing a previous $100 million defamation suit he filed against NBCUniversal over a separate documentary.

As Netflix prepares to move forward with the release, Jackson has continued to mock Combs on social media, further inflaming a feud that now sits at the center of a high-profile legal battle over ownership, consent, and control of a celebrity narrative years in the making.
