Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman highlight their on-set experience filming 'Song Sung Blue'
Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman reflect on their creative partnership as they receive Gotham Musical Tribute award

Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman opened their awards season with recognition for their work in Song Sung Blue, receiving the inaugural Gotham Musical Tribute at the 2025 Gotham Awards in New York City on December 1.
The film, which arrives in cinemas on December 25, follows husband-and-wife duo Mike and Claire Sardina, who formed the Neil Diamond tribute act Lightning and Thunder in the 1980s.
Speaking on the red carpet, the pair reflected on what they learned from collaborating on the project. Hudson said Jackman’s strength lies in his ability to form meaningful connections. “Hugh, his superpower is to connect,” she told PEOPLE.
“Whether it's on stage, whether it's on set, whether it's with anyone and everyone — he just wants to connect and he wants to make sure that everyone's happy. I learned that one of the great gifts you can give people is that you actually have a desire to connect to them.”
She added that Jackman consistently offers support to those around him, describing the energy he gives as similar to “a masseuse who's constantly giving energy to other people.”
Jackman credited Hudson with influencing his own work on the film. “I learned a lot from Kate. I learned about acting on film, actually,” he said. He noted that her balance of preparation and instinct stood out, calling it a “fine line” that she navigates effectively.
“Being with her, I learned and I think I became a better actor,” he added. Jackman also said Hudson demonstrated strong conviction during key discussions on set, helping shape moments he described as essential to the film.
As awards season begins, Hudson has drawn attention for her performance. Speaking to PEOPLE, she said, “You never know with these things… just enjoy that people are really loving the movie.”
