Abida Parveen to headline 'Sindh Sufi Music Festival'

KARACHI. The Sindh government plans to organise a Sufi Music Festival in the province, headlined by world-renowned singer Abida Parveen, while also enhancing support for young artists through initiatives such as the 'Sindh Talent Hunt' and other music development programmes. Sindh Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah met with Abida Parveen to discuss the promotion of Sindh's cultural heritage, Sufi music, and the arts. During the meeting, they outlined plans to organise the Sufi Music Festival across the province.
Abida Parveen praised the Sindh government's cultural efforts and expressed appreciation for its commitment to preserving and promoting regional heritage. The minister extended a formal invitation to her to participate in upcoming provincial cultural programmes.
"Madam Abida Parveen is a global icon and a true cultural ambassador of Sindh," Shah said afterwards. "She is an institution in herself, and emerging singers have much to learn from her." He added that the Culture Department plans to organise her performances in cities across Sindh.
The minister reaffirmed the government's dedication to celebrating Sufi traditions. Addressing recent rumours about Abida Parveen's health, he stated, "False speculation had been spread - Madam Abida Parveen is perfectly fine."
Shah described the legendary singer as "the positive face of Sindh's culture, civilisation and tradition." In honour of the visiting minister, Abida Parveen also hosted a lunch to acknowledge the province's cultural initiatives.
