The family of late Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland is accusing law enforcement of being responsible for his death, claiming police actions led to the tragic loss of the 24-year-old NFL player.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Kneeland’s cousin Jasmine Kneeland, 33, said, “I truly think they killed him, I truly do.” She described the young athlete as kind and gentle, saying, “Marshawn is not a violent person. Something here is just not right. Something made him really scared, and he ran.”

Kneeland died on November 6 after a brief police chase when he allegedly failed to stop for a traffic violation. Authorities said he was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound near the Dallas Parkway. His death came just days after a standout performance for the Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

The Kneeland family, still in shock, insists the situation doesn’t align with who Marshawn was. “He loves his family. He’s like a big kid,” Jasmine said, adding that the family had planned a reunion during the Cowboys’ bye week.

According to 911 audio, Kneeland had texted “goodbye” to family and friends before his death. His girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, told police he had a “history of mental illness” and was worried he might harm himself.

The family released a statement expressing heartbreak and gratitude for public support, asking for privacy as they mourn. “He was kind, humble, and full of love,” the statement read.
