Hello Kitty’ movie sets theatrical release at Warner Bros
Warner Bros. confirms a theatrical release for the Hello Kitty movie, marking the character’s Hollywood debut

After years of anticipation, Hello Kitty is officially heading to the big screen.
Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema have set the Hello Kitty feature film for 2028, marking the beloved character’s first-ever Hollywood debut.
The studio announced the release date on Instagram, writing, “Hello Hollywood #HelloKittyMovie is coming to theaters July 21, 2028!”
The film promises a family-friendly adventure featuring Hello Kitty and her friends in what the studio called “a cinematic journey sure to delight audiences of all ages.”
Directed by Leo Matsuda, best known for Inner Workings, and written by Dana Fox, who penned Wicked, the project is produced by Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. Flynn spent nearly a decade collaborating with Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji to secure the rights. Shelby Thomas will oversee production.
Created in 1974, Hello Kitty became a worldwide icon through toys, fashion, cafés, and even a Japanese theme park. Whether the famously mouthless character will speak in the film remains unknown. Other Sanrio favorites like My Melody, Little Twin Stars, and Gudetama may also appear.
The Hello Kitty movie represents the character’s first English-language feature and a major milestone for the global franchise.
