Jim Carrey is in talks to lead the live-action adaptation of The Jetsons at Warner Bros. Pictures, with Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World Dominion) in negotiations to direct the long-awaited sci-fi comedy. Variety confirmed the discussions on Wednesday.

Trevorrow is also set to co-write the screenplay with Joe Epstein, though specific plot details remain under wraps. The upcoming film will mark the first live-action adaptation of The Jetsons, following decades of development attempts at Warner Bros.

The beloved animated sitcom originally aired in 1962, created by Hanna-Barbera. It followed George and Jane Jetson, their children Judy and Elroy, and their loyal dog Astro as they navigated everyday life in the futuristic Orbit City—complete with flying cars, video phones, and robot maids.

Over the years, multiple attempts to revive The Jetsons for the big screen were made, including a 2003 version by Adam Shankman, a 2007 CGI version by Robert Rodriguez, and a 2017 animated reboot. The most recent feature was the 1990 animated film Jetsons: The Movie.

If confirmed, Carrey would reportedly play George Jetson, bringing his trademark comedic energy to the space-age patriarch. The role would mark Carrey’s return to leading a major studio film after appearances in Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequels.

Director Colin Trevorrow, best known for helming the Jurassic World trilogy, brings a mix of sci-fi and family-friendly adventure to the project. Warner Bros. has not yet commented on the casting or production timeline for The Jetsons live-action movie.
