Steve Martin and Martin Short paid an emotional tribute to their Father of the Bride co-star Diane Keaton during a show in Las Vegas, raising champagne glasses to her memory in front of a giant image of her. The moment took place at the Dukes of Funnytown performance at Wynn’s Encore Theatre following news of Keaton’s death on 11 October 2025.
The two comedians, who worked alongside Keaton in the 1991 film Father of the Bride, paused their performance to invite the audience into a moment of collective remembrance. Martin stood with Short, glancing at the screen behind them where a portrait of Keaton was displayed. Short blew a kiss to the image before Martin and Short clinked their glasses in a solemn toast.
Steve Martin also publicly shared fond memories of Keaton. On social media, he posted a throwback to their earliest collaboration — a 1964 college production of Carousel at Santa Ana College, where Keaton took a starring part and Martin worked behind the scenes. In his post he included a quote from her Annie Hall character and recounted interactions between her and Short.
Diane Keaton, aged 79, passed away in California after a recent decline in health. Her death prompted a wave of tributes from peers, friends, and fans across Hollywood, many highlighting her charm, wit and enduring influence.
The tribute by Martin and Short is especially resonant because of the deep bond they shared with Keaton over decades of work together. Their careers have crossed paths multiple times, and this toast is a final public gesture of respect to someone who was not only a colleague but a friend.
