Hollywood is mourning the loss of legendary actress Diane Keaton, who has died at the age of 79. Her spokesperson confirmed her passing on Saturday, October 11, requesting privacy for the family during this difficult time.
According to close friends, Keaton’s health had declined very suddenly in the months leading up to her death. The Annie Hall star had reportedly withdrawn from public life earlier this year, choosing to spend her final months surrounded by her closest family.
Keaton was the proud mother of two children — daughter Dexter and son Duke — whom she adopted in her 50s. Though she never married, she was famously linked to Hollywood icons Woody Allen, Al Pacino, and Warren Beatty in the 1970s.
In March, Keaton made headlines for listing her beloved Sullivan Canyon home for sale, a property she had painstakingly renovated and showcased in her 2017 design book, The House That Pinterest Built. She had called the creative process “soothing,” crediting Pinterest as her biggest source of inspiration.
Tributes from co-stars and fans poured in following the heartbreaking announcement. Actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who starred alongside Keaton in Father of the Bride, called her “kind, generous, and full of laughter.” Actor Josh Gad described her passing as a “monumental loss,” saying Keaton helped “define a generation of film.”
From The Godfather to Something’s Gotta Give, Diane Keaton’s legacy remains timeless — a true Hollywood icon whose brilliance will never fade.
