Vince Gilligan is finally back on television, and his mysterious new series Pluribus is already generating speculation. The Apple TV+ drama, stylised as Plur1bus, released its first teaser clip this week, teasing cryptic visuals and an unsettling atmosphere that feels unmistakably Gilligan.
The short teaser, titled Taking Out the Trash, shows a drone struggling to lift a plastic bag as a woman watches with quiet despair. A previous promotional clip hinted at darker undertones, with the same character, later revealed to be Carol, sighing as she notices her shirt soaked in blood before leaving the frame.
The plot remains tightly under wraps, but official details confirm that the story follows Carol Sturka, played by Rhea Seehorn, living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In a world where a virus has made everyone unnervingly cheerful and perpetually optimistic, Carol appears to be the only person immune. This unsettling twist sets the stage for a drama that blends dystopian sci-fi with Gilligan’s signature exploration of human psychology.
The cast also includes Karolina Wydra as Zosia and Carlos Manuel Vesga as Manusos. Apple TV+ secured the project in 2022 with a two-season order, and the first instalment will consist of nine episodes. The series will premiere on 7 November with a double-episode launch, continuing weekly thereafter.
Fans online have already begun drawing parallels between the teaser’s cryptic tone and Gilligan’s earlier work. Many noted that the Albuquerque setting evokes the same universe as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, sparking theories that Pluribus may feature subtle nods or Easter eggs. Rhea Seehorn’s involvement, after her acclaimed role as Kim Wexler, has only fuelled excitement.
Though Gilligan has made no indication that this story will overlap with his previous universe, the return to familiar territory combined with a high-concept viral plot has quickly made Pluribus one of the most anticipated streaming launches of the year. Whether it leans toward horror, dark comedy, or social satire, viewers are eager to see Gilligan once again blend the mundane with the unsettling.
