Playground Games has officially revealed Forza Horizon 6, the next entry in its long-running open world racing series. Announced during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show livestream, the game is set in Japan, a location that has long been requested by the community.

The new setting will allow players to explore diverse landscapes inspired by Japan’s car culture, from drifting and touge racing to tuner heritage.

Playground Games noted that the Horizon Festival will once again blend real-world geography into a compact map, as seen in previous entries set in Colorado, southern France, Australia, the UK, and Mexico.

“Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC in 2026,” Playground Games confirmed in its official blog. “It will be included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch.”

The studio also revealed that, for the first time, the series will arrive on PlayStation 5 after its initial release, with Playground Games working alongside Turn 10 Studios to bring the game to Sony’s platform.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer, though no gameplay has been shown yet. Playground Games has stated that more details will be shared early in 2026, including a closer look at the new map, driving features, and festival events.

In Forza Horizon 6, players will work to build their reputation within the Horizon Festival in Japan, unlocking new races, events, and vehicles as they progress.

While details remain limited, the confirmation of Japan as the setting has already drawn strong reactions from fans, who have long considered it one of the most iconic destinations for a racing game.

Forza Horizon 6 is scheduled to release in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a PlayStation 5 version to follow post-launch.
