In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, Pink Floyd is set to release a deluxe reissue titled "Wish You Were Here 50" on December 12, 2025. The newly expanded editions include a wealth of previously unreleased material, new mixes, and collectible items, offering the most comprehensive version of the 1975 album to date.
Originally released as the follow-up to The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here remains a cornerstone of Pink Floyd’s legacy. Now under Sony Music — which acquired the band’s catalog in 2024 for an estimated $400 million — the anniversary release kicks off a broader campaign of archival projects, following the success of the remastered Pink Floyd at Pompeii earlier this year.
The new edition includes multiple formats: a 3-LP clear vinyl set, a 2-CD version, a Blu-ray, digital downloads, and a deluxe boxed set containing all of the above. Fans will receive six unreleased alternate takes or demos, including a restored early version of “Welcome to the Machine” titled “The Machine Song (Demo #2, Revisited),” now available on streaming platforms as a preview.
The Blu-ray edition features Dolby Atmos and multiple surround sound mixes, as well as concert screen films from the 1975 tour and a short film by the band’s longtime visual collaborator, Storm Thorgerson. Audiophiles and collectors will appreciate the inclusion of a fully restored live recording from Pink Floyd’s 1975 Los Angeles Sports Arena show, mixed by Steven Wilson and officially released for the first time.
Newly unearthed material includes Roger Waters' original home demo of “The Machine Song,” a pedal steel instrumental version of “Wish You Were Here” highlighting David Gilmour’s guitar work, and a full-length version of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1–9)” remixed in stereo by longtime Floyd engineer James Guthrie.
The deluxe box set will include additional exclusives, such as a clear vinyl LP of “Live at Wembley 1974”, a replica Japanese 7-inch single, a hardcover book with rare photos, a comic-style tour program, and a reproduction Knebworth concert poster.
Many tracks were previously featured on the 2011 Immersion edition, but this release offers a more cohesive and upgraded package, addressing past fan criticisms while showcasing rare gems from the band’s vault. With updated visuals, surround sound, and exclusive new content, Wish You Were Here 50 looks set to become a definitive collector’s item for Floyd fans.
