Speculation about Lil Baby’s retirement surfaced this week after DJ Akademiks highlighted a cryptic Instagram Story from an account linked to the rapper’s management team, according to HotNewHipHop (Sept. 11, 2025). The post, shared by “WolfPackGlobalMusic,” read, “Baby retiring from music this crazy,” followed by a black heart emoji.
Reactions from fans were mixed. Some argued retirement made sense given his financial success. “Honestly I would too. The goal is to get rich … he’s rich, now invest,” one user wrote. Others pointed to Lil Baby’s own comments, with one noting: “Lil Baby always said he didn’t care about the music, he just wanted the money.”
The retirement rumors come as the rapper prepares to release his long-awaited album The Leaks. Originally expected on September 5, the project was delayed, with Lil Baby later confirming September 25 as the new release date. On Instagram, he wrote: “I Know I Know … Even Tho I Never Said Album Dropping On 15th, That’s My Bad! 9-5-25 ‘The Leaks.’”
The album features appearances from Playboi Carti, Young Thug, Lil Yachty, G Herbo, LUCKI, Veeze, Rylo Rodriguez, Skooly, and Bino. Producers on the record include Wheezy, Murda Beatz, TM88, and BabyWave. Lil Baby has also hinted at releasing a second project shortly after The Leaks. In a livestream with PlaqueBoyMax, he revealed: “I’m actually dropping two albums … I wasn’t planning on dropping this one.”
The speculation also comes amid challenges for Lil Baby’s frequent collaborator Young Thug, who faces criticism over leaked prison phone calls. Lil Baby has not publicly addressed the retirement rumors.
