Super Mario Bros. Movie: Sequel's title reportedly leaks ahead of September Nintendo Direct

A day before Nintendo’s highly anticipated Direct presentation, the title of the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel appears to have surfaced online.

Records show that on September 10, NBCUniversal registered domains including SuperMarioGalaxy-LaPelicula.com and SuperMarioGalaxy-LeFilm.com. Both are now linked to Universal Pictures’ official servers in Spanish and French, reinforcing the credibility of the discovery.

Public DNS and WHOIS records identify NBCUniversal as the registrant, strongly suggesting the sequel will be titled Super Mario Galaxy.

This revelation contrasts with earlier speculation that had pointed to Super Mario World as the likely title. The timing, just before a scheduled Nintendo Direct, indicates an official confirmation could be imminent.

The first Super Mario Bros. Movie premiered in April 2023, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic with a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. Despite mixed critical reception, it grossed more than 1.36 billion dollars worldwide, becoming the highest-earning video game adaptation and Illumination’s most successful release to date.

Featuring Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black, the film proved Nintendo’s characters could thrive on the big screen.

The sequel is set for release on April 3, 2026, with Horvath, Jelenic, and Fogel all returning, alongside producers Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri.

Plot details are still under wraps, though the post-credits scene of the first movie hinted at Yoshi’s arrival and the introduction of new characters from the Mario franchise.
