The official trailer for New Years Rev, a coming-of-age road trip comedy featuring music legends Green Day, has been released ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 12.
The film follows three teenage friends—played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust—who embark on a wild cross-country journey after mistakenly believing their band has landed an opening slot for Green Day in Los Angeles. The group “borrows” a taxi and hits the road, encountering adventures filled with music, mischief, and unexpected romance.
Directed by Lee Kirk, New Years Rev also features a strong ensemble cast, including The Office alums Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, alongside Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Keen Ruffalo, Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, and Sean Gunn.
Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool, and Mike Dirnt not only appear in the film but also perform and contribute to its soundtrack. The band co-developed the project with Live Nation Productions, while CAA Media Finance is handling international sales.
The film’s soundtrack leans heavily on Green Day’s music, which adds to the authenticity of the punk-rock-infused narrative. The film also arrives shortly after the band’s high-profile headlining performance at the 2025 Coachella Music Festival.
Reflecting on the spirit of the film, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong shared in a statement: “Van days rule. You’ll drive all night on no sleep to play for 10 kids in a basement—and do it again the next day. Because your bandmates become your family, and it’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”
New Years Rev brings together youthful rebellion, heartfelt friendship, and high-octane music in a film that celebrates the raw, unfiltered spirit of chasing rock-and-roll dreams.
