Mark Consuelos announces father Saul’s death after long illness on 'Live with Kelly and Mark'

Mark Consuelos has announced the death of his father, Saul Consuelos, who passed away on March 23 following a long illness. The news was shared during an episode of Live with Kelly and Mark on April 6.
Consuelos said his father “passed away peacefully,” while his wife and co-host Kelly Ripa reflected on his impact on their family.
“He was the greatest person I’ve ever known,” Ripa said. “I can honestly say I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, as I know you will, as our children will.”
The couple’s three children, Michael, Lola and Joaquin, are experiencing their first major family loss, according to Ripa, who noted the significance of their close relationship with their grandfather.
Consuelos spoke about his father’s life, including his early years after immigrating from Mexico as a teenager. He highlighted Saul’s 30-year service in the United States Navy and his continued education during that time.
“He came here from Mexico in his early teens, he immigrated here from Mexico. He served his country for 30 years,” Consuelos said, adding that his father later earned a master’s degree.
Reflecting on personal memories, Consuelos described his father’s approach to teaching and learning. “It’s funny, I used to make a joke about my dad — if you asked him what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch,” he said, adding that he learned practical skills by observing him at home.
Consuelos added that he was able to say goodbye to his father while working on a Broadway production, describing the experience as a source of support during a difficult period.
