Marvel Zombies season 2 has been confirmed to be in development, with production already underway on the Disney+ animated series.

The update comes from Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television and animation, Brad Winderbaum, who shared details during an appearance on The Escape Pod podcast.

The animated horror series debuted in 2025, exploring an alternate storyline in which a zombie outbreak affects the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its characters.

The show expanded on the What If…? animated anthology, presenting familiar heroes in a darker setting as they faced both infected enemies and each other.

According to Winderbaum, early work on the second season is already in progress. “I don't think it's a spoiler, but I saw the first animatic of the first episode of Marvel Zombies season 2 this morning. It was crazy, I can't say anything about it, but it delivers not just on like zombies, but also on like an MCU thing that has never really happened before that we're very excited to do.”

The first season performed strongly on streaming charts, reportedly surpassing titles such as Grey’s Anatomy across more than 30 countries during its debut week.

This performance contributed to continued audience demand for additional episodes following the season’s cliffhanger ending.

Despite its popularity with viewers, the series received mixed critical responses. It recorded a 66% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with some reviewers highlighting the action sequences and use of established characters in new scenarios. In comparison, What If…? achieved a higher rating of 85% on the same platform.

Marvel Zombies features returning voice performances from several actors associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.

No official release date for season 2 has been announced. The first season remains available for streaming on Disney+.
