WWE legend John Cena has revealed why he chose Logan Paul as one of his opponents during his final matches in the company, giving the YouTube star significant praise despite ongoing criticism from fans.

Cena faced Paul at WWE’s Clash in Paris on August 31, where he secured a victory. Following the event, he spoke during the post-show press conference about the decision to include Paul in his farewell run.

“I remember somebody giving me an opportunity in Chicago, Illinois. I stepped up and I wasn’t ready,” Cena said, recalling his own debut match against Kurt Angle in 2002. “There’s a whole lot of people that could’ve faced Kurt that night, but I was the one who had the stupid bravery to slap him in the face. That’s how I started this journey.”

Drawing a parallel to his own beginnings, Cena explained that he respects Paul’s rapid growth in wrestling. “I got a lot of respect for Logan Paul. I see so much potential in him, and he’s just so good at this,” he added.

Cena also addressed critics who remain skeptical of Paul’s role in WWE, noting that obsession is key to success in the industry. “There has never been somebody who has been the marquee in this business that hasn’t been borderline unhealthy obsessed,” he said.

While Cena acknowledged that not everyone will support Paul’s rise, he emphasized the importance of recognizing his commitment. “If people don’t like Logan, that’s fine. But I got to put some respect on that man.”
