Amazon Prime Video has officially announced Sophie Turner will star as Lara Croft in its upcoming Tomb Raider television series, with production set to begin on January 19, 2026.

Turner, best known for her roles as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and Jean Grey in Dark Phoenix, joins the long legacy of actresses who have portrayed the iconic video game heroine.

Speaking on the casting, Turner said: “I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She's such an iconic character who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I've got.”

The series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, acclaimed for Fleabag, who serves as creator, writer and co-showrunner. Directing duties will be handled by Jonathan Van Tulleken, whose credits include Dope Thief and Shōgun.

Turner succeeds Alicia Vikander, who starred in the 2018 reboot, and Angelina Jolie, who fronted the early 2000s films.

Details about additional casting and the release date remain under wraps, but anticipation is already high for Amazon’s adaptation of one of gaming’s most enduring icons.
