Reese Witherspoon is urging Hollywood to ensure women are included in the rise of artificial intelligence, calling AI “the future of filmmaking.”

In a new interview with Glamour magazine, the Oscar-winning actor and producer said she is committed to bringing women into emerging industries, including AI, as she promotes the upcoming fourth season of her Apple TV+ series The Morning Show.

“It’s so, so important that women are involved in AI because it will be the future of filmmaking,” Witherspoon said. “And you can be sad and lament it all you want, but the change is here.” She added that while traditional methods of creativity will remain essential, AI will increasingly shape how stories are produced and shared.

Witherspoon also shared that she uses AI regularly in her daily life, from search platforms like Perplexity to the AI shopping assistant Vetted AI. She highlighted how tools such as AI assistants can simplify tasks like making doctor’s appointments or navigating hospital systems.

The conversation around AI in Hollywood remains divided. Some filmmakers, including James Cameron, have explored how AI might reduce blockbuster production costs. Others, like Guillermo del Toro, have rejected the technology in their projects. Critics argue AI cannot replace human creativity, with Cameron previously stating that only people can craft stories that truly resonate with audiences.

Witherspoon emphasized that AI should be seen as a tool rather than a replacement for artistic expression, but insisted that women must have a seat at the table as the industry undergoes this shift.
