ABC’s highly anticipated Scrubs reboot is set to bring back another fan-favorite.

Judy Reyes, best known for her role as head nurse Carla Espinosa in the original series, will reprise her character in a recurring guest role.

Reyes starred as Carla across the first eight seasons of Scrubs, which originally aired on NBC before moving to ABC. The series followed medical interns J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison), and Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke) as they navigated life at Sacred Heart Hospital. The medical comedy was nominated for 17 Emmy Awards and won two during its run.

The new 30-minute ABC series, ordered in July, reunites Braff, Faison, and Chalke, who will all return both as stars and executive producers. Bill Lawrence, the creator of the original show, also returns as an executive producer alongside Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, who will serve as showrunners.

The reboot follows J.D. and Turk reuniting at Sacred Heart, where the medical landscape has changed but their friendship remains intact. New characters will join the mix, while original favorites like Carla bring nostalgia to longtime viewers.

Reyes’ return was made possible through special scheduling arrangements, as she continues her role as Selena Soto in ABC’s High Potential. The crime drama is currently airing its second season.

Beyond Scrubs and High Potential, Reyes has an extensive television resume, including roles in Devious Maids, Claws, Succession, and The Sopranos. She has also earned acclaim for film roles in Birth/Rebirth and Turtles All the Way Down.

The Scrubs reboot is expected to premiere this fall on ABC, adding to the network’s lineup of nostalgic revivals.
