Chloe Malle has been appointed as the new head of editorial content for Vogue’s U.S. edition, succeeding Anna Wintour, who stepped aside in June after 37 years leading the fashion magazine.

Condé Nast confirmed the announcement on Tuesday, noting that Malle will continue to report directly to Wintour, who remains the company’s chief content officer and Vogue’s global editorial director.

Malle, 39, is the daughter of actor Candice Bergen and director Louis Malle. In an interview with the New York Times, she acknowledged her background, calling herself a “proud nepo baby,” while emphasizing her determination to prove herself beyond her family ties. “There is no question that I have benefited from privilege, but it has always made me work much harder,” she said.

Malle has worked at Vogue since 2011, starting as social editor and later contributing across print, digital, and special projects. She became editor of Vogue.com in 2023 and co-hosts the magazine’s podcast “The Run-Through.” Her career also includes editing books such as Vogue Weddings (2012) and Vogue Living (2017).

According to the Times, Malle is considering reducing the frequency of Vogue’s print issues, focusing instead on high-quality, themed editions intended as collectible items. The first print issue under her leadership is expected in 2026.

Wintour praised Malle in a statement, highlighting her ability to balance Vogue’s history with its future: “Chloe has proven often that she can find the balance between American Vogue’s long, singular history and its future on the front lines of the new.”

Malle, a Brown University graduate, lives in New York with her husband, two children, and their dog.
