Roblox has announced a major policy update: starting immediately, Restricted-tagged experiences will only be accessible to users aged 18 and over, raising the previous age limit from 17+. The change begins rolling out as of August 28, with younger users already losing access to these experiences in search results and recommendations. Full access will be blocked later this year.

This policy doesn’t just affect players—it also applies to developers. While underage creators can still manage and update their existing Restricted content, only users 18+ will be allowed to upload new experiences with the Restricted maturity label going forward.

The move follows heightened scrutiny around child safety on the platform, particularly after the August 11 ban of YouTuber “Schlep”, known for his “predator hunting” content. With over 600,000 subscribers, Schlep claims his work has helped lead to multiple arrests over the past year. Roblox, however, accused him of violating its policies, citing “simulated child endangerment conversations,” “sharing or soliciting personal information,” and “encouraging users to move conversations off-platform.” Along with the ban, Roblox issued a Cease and Desist letter.

The incident sparked public debate over the platform’s handling of safety concerns, with critics accusing Roblox of punishing a whistleblower rather than addressing the underlying issues. Stepping into the conversation is Chris Hansen, host of To Catch a Predator, who has reportedly reached out to Schlep and is investigating Roblox for a potential documentary on child safety practices within the platform.

As the platform continues to evolve, this latest policy update reflects growing pressure on Roblox to better protect its younger audience—while also dealing with the complex challenges of moderation, content creation, and community accountability.
