Newly announced cast members include Amy Adams and Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge). They are joined by Flynn Gray (Wednesday), Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners), Jamael Westman (Good Grief), and Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen). The ensemble also features Matt Smith and Mia Goth. The screenplay is written by Jonathan Tropper (The Adam Project), with Levy producing alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
To celebrate the start of filming in the United Kingdom, Lucasfilm released the first official image from the production. The still shows Gosling and Gray standing beside a landspeeder resembling Luke Skywalker’s from 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope, though the studio emphasized that Starfighter will present a completely original story set in a new era of the galaxy.
In a statement, Levy expressed his excitement for the project, describing the opportunity as “a dream come true, creatively and personally.” He credited Kennedy for inviting him to expand the Star Wars universe, adding that the franchise profoundly shaped his sense of storytelling.
Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027. It will follow The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to premiere in May 2026, marking the first Star Wars theatrical release since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
