Helen Mirren revealed she continues to stay in close contact with her Shazam! Fury of the Gods co-stars Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler, maintaining a group chat long after filming wrapped.
Speaking to PEOPLE, the Oscar-winning actress, 80, said the bond she formed with Liu, 56, and Zegler, 24, remains strong. “We text each other all the time and send each other love and support,” Mirren shared.
Their friendship extends beyond messages. On August 24, Zegler posted a backstage photo of Mirren and her husband, director Taylor Hackford, visiting her during her performance in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita in London. Mirren previously described their connection as “sisters for life,” noting how they spent time together off set shopping, dining, and bonding.
Mirren, Liu, and Zegler played the daughters of Atlas — Hespera, Kalypso, and Anthea — in the 2023 DC sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Despite being adversaries on screen, the actresses forged a lasting friendship that continues today.
Currently, Mirren stars in The Thursday Murder Club, a new Netflix adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling mystery novel. She plays a retirement community resident who solves cold cases with the help of her friends, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, and Ben Kingsley.
When asked if her latest cast has formed a similar text group, Mirren replied, “Not yet. But I think there will be. Certainly me and Celia text, yes.”
The Thursday Murder Club is now streaming on Netflix.
