Comedian Michael Longfellow is officially leaving Saturday Night Live after three seasons, Variety has confirmed. His exit marks the latest in a string of departures from the long-running NBC sketch series ahead of its upcoming 51st season.

Longfellow, who joined SNL as a featured player in Season 48, quickly gained attention for his dry, sardonic humor—particularly during “Weekend Update” segments where he often portrayed a wry version of himself. He was promoted to the main cast in Season 50 and was even screen-tested for a potential role as a “Weekend Update” co-anchor in May, according to LateNighter, making his departure somewhat unexpected.

Alongside Longfellow, fellow castmates Devon Walker and Emil Wakim have also confirmed their exits. Walker reflected on Instagram, saying, “Sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell... But we made the most of what it was.” Wakim called his time on the show “terrifying, thrilling, and rewarding,” expressing gratitude despite being caught off guard by the decision.

The shake-up extends beyond the cast, with writers Celeste Yim and Rosebud Baker also stepping away ahead of Season 51. NBC has not yet commented on the changes.

Longfellow hinted earlier this year that his presence on SNL had diminished during Season 50, joking during a “Weekend Update” appearance: “I work like 12 hours a week… they don’t really keep tabs on your whereabouts here.”

Outside of SNL, Longfellow continues his stand-up career and recently appeared in Good Burger 2. He also performed at the “Netflix Is a Joke” comedy festival and previously competed on NBC’s Bring the Funny.

Saturday Night Live returns to NBC on October 4 for its 51st season, following its 50th anniversary celebrations, which included documentaries, concerts, and a special telecast.
