Saturday Night Live took several jabs at country singer Morgan Wallen on April 5, just one week after he abruptly left the March 29 episode.
Wallen had appeared as the musical guest opposite Mikey Madison, but his exit before the show ended quickly became a topic of discussion.
The show referenced Wallen’s actions in two segments: the Cold Open and Weekend Update. The first mention occurred when James Austin Johnson, playing former President Donald Trump, made a light-hearted comment about Wallen’s “God’s country” Instagram post, where Wallen had shared a photo of a private jet with the phrase “Get me to God’s country.”

Johnson, in character, joked about visiting “God’s country,” riffing on Wallen’s post and the idea of McDonald Island.
The second reference came during Weekend Update, with Colin Jost commenting on the state of the stock market. In a humorous comparison, Jost said, “Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnights,” referencing Wallen’s quick exit from the stage at the end of the previous week’s show.
Wallen had performed two songs from his upcoming album I’m the Problem, but as the show came to a close, he whispered something to host Mikey Madison and walked offstage, leaving abruptly. Wallen later posted the private jet photo with his now-famous phrase "Get me to God’s country" on Instagram Stories. He has since released merchandise referencing the moment.
A source close to Wallen later clarified to Variety that the singer had enjoyed his time on SNL and did not intend to offend anyone with his actions or post. The insider explained that Wallen had followed his usual routine when entering and exiting the studio and didn’t put much thought into how his departure would be perceived.
Kenan Thompson, a longtime SNL cast member, commented on Wallen's exit, noting that he was unsure whether Wallen “understood the assignment” or not. Wallen was also reportedly offered a cameo in a pre-taped sketch, but declined, with Joe Jonas stepping in for him instead.
The episode, which aired on April 5, was hosted by Mikey Madison, and the musical guest was Wallen. SNL will return on April 12 with Jon Hamm as host and Lizzo as the musical guest.
