Matt Smith has suggested that House of the Dragon Season 3 will expand in scope and intensity, with larger set pieces and significant battle sequences.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, said the new season feels “a lot bigger and more epic” compared to the previous instalments.
“We’re coming to the final few months of filming, and we’ve got a lot of big set pieces to get through. There’s a lot of blood and a lot of guts, I’ll say that,” he explained.
The actor’s character, Daemon, is expected to remain central to the civil war storyline, with upcoming conflicts including the Battle of the Gullet and the First Battle of Tumbleton. These events are likely to follow directly from the conclusion of Season 2, which intensified the Targaryen struggle for power.
Smith is currently balancing his work on the series with his role in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, also starring Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz, which releases on August 29.
Meanwhile, Olivia Cooke, who portrays Alicent Hightower, also spoke about the production process for Season 3. In an interview with Screen Rant, she highlighted the demanding filming schedule.
“We started in April, so we are done in October. We’re over halfway and it’s massive,” she said, adding: “It is actually ridiculous and it’s a lot of practical, huge stunt work. It’s mad.”
House of the Dragon Season 3 does not yet have a confirmed release date but is expected to arrive in 2026. That year will also see the debut of a new Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, featuring Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Aegon V Targaryen.
