Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson stirred up buzz during a lighthearted interview on NBC’s Today show, where co-host Craig Melvin directly asked if the co-stars of the upcoming Naked Gun reboot are romantically involved.
The pair appeared on the morning program on July 29 to promote the comedy film, in which Neeson plays Frank Drebin Jr. — the son of the iconic character made famous by Leslie Nielsen — while Anderson portrays his love interest, Beth Davenport. The on-screen chemistry has led to speculation about an off-screen romance, especially after the duo appeared cozy at the film’s premieres in London and New York.
“You’re both single right now,” Melvin noted during the interview. “There’s clearly chemistry on display throughout this film. Are you two an item?”
Both actors playfully dodged the question. “Craig!” Neeson exclaimed with mock indignation, while Anderson replied, “I don’t understand the question.”
Neeson clarified that they met for the first time on set and discovered what he described as a “lovely, budding chemistry — as two actors.” Anderson echoed the sentiment, calling it a “natural chemistry.”
Neeson added, “It’s like, ‘Oh, this is nice. Let’s not mold this. Let’s just let it breathe.’ And that’s what we did.” The actor also noted their shared sense of humor, saying they found a “silly bone in each other.”
Melvin, clearly enjoying the interaction, quipped, “We’re watching the beginning of the breathing of a budding relationship,” and urged them to “come back when it’s official.”
Romance rumors began swirling after Anderson kissed Neeson on the cheek at the London premiere and leaned affectionately toward him during interviews. Neeson had previously made headlines for saying he was “madly in love” with Anderson, further fueling fan speculation.
Naked Gun opens in theaters August 1. While neither star has confirmed a romantic relationship, their flirtatious banter continues to keep audiences guessing.
