Janet Caperna, star of the reality series The Valley, has fled the United States and made all her social media accounts private after facing a barrage of disturbing death threats. The 35-year-old reality star, accompanied by her husband Jason and their 18-month-old son Cameron, traveled to Switzerland this week to escape the online abuse, according to the Daily Mail.
Caperna locked her Instagram account during the flight to Europe after receiving an overwhelming amount of hateful messages. Screenshots of these threats, shared with the outlet, show trolls attacking Caperna and her family with violent and abusive language. One message read, "I hope you rot like you deserve," while another threatened, "I know where you live. I’ve seen where your son goes when you’re not with him."

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Caperna expressed her frustration with the toxic online environment, emphasizing that threats and hate speech should not be normalized, despite the nature of reality TV. "I’m sick of threats and slurs being normalized because ‘we signed up for this when we joined reality TV,'" she said. "That’s sick and not normal."
Caperna also noted that the intensity of the hate has made her rethink her approach to social media. "It’s sad to me that people go this far," she added. "It’s definitely the worst part about this ‘job.’ I’m learning how to put boundaries on social media in place and learning as I go."
The former celebrity assistant, who once worked for Cameron Diaz, shared some of the most vile messages during an episode of her podcast This Side of the Hill. One message read, "I hope you die a slow and painful death, you are so ugly," while another targeted her son with racist slurs. Caperna emphasized that these messages were not just criticism but malicious attacks.
In her conversation with the Daily Mail, she also revealed that a former friend—who is now a co-star—had been seen engaging with trolls online, including responding to a comment questioning her child's safety with a laughing emoji. Caperna expressed her disappointment at this behavior, adding, "I’m so disappointed in that."
