Selena Gomez will return to her iconic role as Alex Russo in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place for Season 2.
The actress, who also serves as an executive producer for the series, originally played Alex in the Disney Channel sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired from 2007 to 2012. The spinoff series, which premiered in October last year, featured Gomez in two of the 21 episodes of its first season.
In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, Alex Russo is now reaching out to her brother Justin (David Henrie) to help train Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a teenage wizard, as part of the Russo family. Season 2 will explore the complications Billie faces, especially now that she is no longer the only wizard in the family. The season’s synopsis reveals that Justin will be tasked with training three young wizards, including Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko), as they prepare for the Family Wizard Competition. However, new magical powers and a mysterious threat will raise the stakes for the Russo family.
Gomez shared her excitement about returning to the role on Instagram, posting a photo of herself on set with a wand and writing, “Just feels right…” alongside it.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place was created by Todd Greenwald, with Gomez, Henrie, writers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, Gary Marsh, and Jonas Agin serving as executive producers. Fans can look forward to more Russo family magic and drama when Season 2 airs.
