The District Bar Association observed a complete strike on Monday, boycotting court proceedings in protest against the alleged assault, mistreatment, and false FIR against former Bar Joint Secretary Malik Tajammul Awan and senior lawyer Chaudhry Rizwan Elahi by traffic police personnel.
During the Bar meeting, lawyers unanimously passed a resolution to ban the entry of traffic wardens and traffic police officers into the District Courts complex. The Bar President and Secretary warned of strong repercussions if the "false and retaliatory" case against the lawyers is not withdrawn and no action is taken against the responsible traffic wardens. They also called for the City Traffic Officer (CTO) to be barred from entering the court premises, declaring that the traffic police's misconduct will no longer be tolerated.
Bar Secretary Malik Asad Mahmood stated that no law permits traffic wardens to act violently or abusively, adding, "This matter will not be treated as routine. Strict action must be taken against the responsible warden."
A resolution condemning the conduct of the involved traffic warden was also passed. As part of the strike, lawyers did not appear in any court proceedings, which brought judicial activity to a standstill across district, civil, family, and special courts.
