On June 8, the singer posted two black-and-white selfies to Instagram with the caption, “Tired of transactional relationships.” He added, “If I have to do something to be loved, that’s not love.”

The 31-year-old pop star had addressed a similar sentiment a few weeks earlier in a May Instagram Story, writing, “Love isn’t a ‘you get what you put in’ kinda thing. It’s a receiving thing.” Bieber acknowledged that although he knows he is loved unconditionally, he still finds himself trying to earn affection—a pattern he described as “exhausting.” He reflected on how that mindset has made him feel both unworthy and entitled at different times, concluding, “True love is freely given with no expectation.”

These reflections come amid continued public speculation about the state of his marriage to Hailey Bieber, whom he wed in 2018. The couple welcomed their first child, Jack Blues Bieber, in August 2024. Despite online rumors suggesting trouble in their relationship, Hailey recently affirmed that such reports are unfounded.

In a May 20 interview with Vogue, Hailey spoke candidly about adjusting to postpartum life and facing intense scrutiny. “Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life,” she said, describing rumors about a divorce as “a mindf--k.” She emphasized that her real life includes a strong support system, her husband, and their child.
