The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced the launch of its "Save the Province" movement, beginning with a major rally at Assembly Chowk in Peshawar on May 26.
Speaking at a press conference alongside senior leaders, PPP's Provincial Information Secretary Governor Inqilabi and veteran party member Tahir Abbas paid tribute to the party's legacy.
"Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto made Pakistan a nuclear power, while Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto advanced missile technology. We salute Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for courageously representing Pakistan on the global stage and advocating for the nation before world powers," said Inqilabi.
The PPP leaders accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa of widespread corruption. "From past scandals like Malam Jabba and the BRT project to ongoing financial irregularities worth billions, corruption remains rampant. Even members of the provincial cabinet are publicly accusing each other of graft," they claimed.
They further alleged that accountability institutions have remained silent on the corruption within the provincial government. "The law and order situation, particularly in tribal and southern districts, is so dire that police stations shut down by evening, leaving citizens at the mercy of terrorists," they added.
The PPP leaders also criticized the federal government for neglecting the province. "The federation has practically outsourced Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, offering no attention or support to its people over the past year and a half," they said.
The upcoming protest on May 26 is expected to draw a wide cross-section of the public, including daily wage earners and over 16,000 workers reportedly laid off by the PTI government.
