A bomb attack struck a political rally led by a provincial lawmaker from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Quetta on Tuesday, killing one person and injuring five others, police said.

According to Express News, the blast targeted the convoy of MPA Ali Madad Jattak as it moved towards a political gathering on Sariab Road, a busy area in the capital of Balochistan province.

"Unknown assailants targeted the rally with an improvised explosive device. One person died and five others were injured," a senior police official said. Authorities confirmed that Jatak was unharmed in the attack. A vehicle in the convoy sustained partial damage.

Emergency services transported the injured to a nearby hospital. Police have launched an investigation and collected evidence from the scene.

The Balochistan government condemned the incident. “This was a cowardly act. Attacks on elected representatives are an attack on democracy itself,” said government spokesperson Shahid Rind. He added that a report has been requested and that those responsible will be brought to justice.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari strongly condemned the attack on the convoy. He expressed gratitude that the party leader remained unharmed and offered prayers for his continued safety.

Describing the attack as a cowardly act and an instance of blatant terrorism, Bilawal stressed that such actions would not weaken the resolve or spirit of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

“I am confident that the terrorists involved in this attack will soon be brought to justice,” he said. Bilawal also urged authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured and prayed for their swift and complete recovery.

Earlier, in another incident, member of the National Assembly and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Mubarak Zeb Khan, remained unhurt after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated outside his residence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. The blast partially damaged the house but caused no injuries.

In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Khan confirmed that the explosion had specifically targeted him and his family. “The main gate of my house was blown up with a bomb,” he said, while assuring that all family members were safe.

He condemned the incident as a cowardly act and declared that such tactics would not demoralize or deter him from his duties.

“No one can shake my resolve with these acts of terror,” Khan stated.
