Actor Michael Pitt has been charged with multiple offences including first-degree sexual abuse and assault, following allegations of repeated violence against his former partner.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the 44-year-old was arraigned in Brooklyn Supreme Court after being arrested on Friday.

Court documents outline four alleged domestic incidents involving Pitt and his ex-girlfriend between April 2020 and August 2021 at his Bushwick residence. Charges include first-degree criminal sex act, third-degree criminal sex act, second-degree strangulation, and multiple counts of assault and attempted assault.

Prosecutors claim Pitt sexually assaulted the victim, struck her with a wooden plank, and attacked her with a cinderblock during separate episodes. One incident in August 2021 reportedly involved strangulation. The alleged assaults follow a pattern of escalating violence detailed in the indictment.

Pitt, best known for his role as Jimmy Darmody on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, also appeared in Seven Psychopaths and Murder by Numbers

During Friday’s arraignment, Pitt pleaded not guilty. Judge Joanne Quinones set bail at $100,000, which he posted shortly thereafter.

Pitt is expected to appear in court again on 17 June. The case remains under investigation, and the charges have not been proven in court.
