A sequel to the Oscar-winning film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is officially underway, and this time it will be directed by David Fincher, with the screenplay penned by Quentin Tarantino.

The project, is being developed at Netflix, where Fincher holds a first-look deal.

Brad Pitt is confirmed to reprise his role as stuntman Cliff Booth, a character that won him his first-ever Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The title of the sequel has been revealed, 'The Continuing Adventures of Clif Booth."

This upcoming film marks a unique collaboration between two acclaimed filmmakers, and also signals a notable platform shift.

Unlike the original 2019 release, which was distributed theatrically by Sony Pictures, the sequel is being made for streaming.

Tarantino had previously negotiated to retain the rights to the original film’s underlying copyright, which seems to have facilitated the follow-up landing at Netflix.

News of the sequel dropped during CinemaCon, the annual industry gathering for cinema owners and studios in Las Vegas, adding to the significance of the move away from traditional theatrical distribution.

The timing also follows Tarantino’s decision to shelve The Movie Critic, a planned tenth and final feature film that had Brad Pitt cast in the lead. That story was set in the 1970s and revolved around a movie critic who wrote for an adult magazine, with speculation suggesting Pitt’s role would have drawn from his Once Upon a Time character.

Tarantino has previously written screenplays for films he didn’t direct, such as True Romance (directed by Tony Scott) and From Dusk till Dawn (directed by Robert Rodriguez).

Meanwhile, Fincher’s history with Netflix includes Mank, a Hollywood period piece, and The Killer, a gritty thriller.

He also shares a rich creative history with Brad Pitt, having directed him in critically acclaimed films like Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

It remains unclear whether Leonardo DiCaprio or Margot Robbie will return for the sequel, but Pitt’s comeback as Cliff Booth already has fans intrigued, especially as it follows a film that not only won Oscars but also reignited appreciation for classic Hollywood storytelling.
