KARACHI:

Soldier Bazaar police have arrested Munir Mehdi, alias Gol Gappa, a fugitive wanted in multiple fraud cases involving the deception of unsuspecting citizens with false promises of overseas employment.

According to SHO PS Soldier Bazaar Waqar Azeem, Mehdi had been absconding in several cases registered against him at Soldier Bazaar, Firozabad, and Baloch Colony police stations. He allegedly swindled millions of rupees from young people eager to secure jobs abroad, offering them fabricated opportunities in Qatar, Dubai, Australia, Canada, and the United States.

Police revealed that Mehdi and his gang operated across the city, targeting unsuspecting victims with dreams of a better future. He would demand advance payments ranging from Rs1.5 million to Rs3 million from each victim, in exchange for fraudulent job placements.

To appear credible, he signed bogus agreements on fake stamp papers and issued counterfeit cheques.

Once he received the payments, Mehdi would go into hiding for months, leaving his victims stranded. Over the past two years, countless complaints have been filed against him, with several victims approaching law enforcement agencies for justice. Sources indicate that Mehdi's arrest may lead to crucial revelations about his network and other accomplices. Police suspect that his gang remains active in Karachi, continuing to lure new victims.
